Q: Why should I use ActiveTextBox?

A: To make working with PC easier and faster. Now you can start entering data of any nature (names, phone numbers, settings, file paths etc.) into any textbox with just one click! ActiveTextBox lets you save your valuable time so that you can spend it on working more productively or just having a good time instead of typing!

Q: What operating systems are supported by ActiveTextBox?

A: ActiveTextBox supports the following operating systems:

  • Windows 95

  • Windows 98

  • Windows Me

  • Windows NT

  • Windows 2000

  • Windows XP

Q: How much drive space ActiveTextBox occupies?

A: The installation program takes 750 KBytes. After ActiveTextBox is installed on your system it occupies less than 500 KBytes.

Q: Does ActiveTextBox change and\or replace any Windows system files?

A: No, ActiveTextBox does not alter or replace system files, neither it places its own files to Windows system folders.

Q: Is there a help system in ActiveTextBox?

A: Yes! The help system of ActiveTextBox contains the detailed information on each and every aspect of using the program. Help system (HTML help) will become available as soon as you install the software! To activate the help system press F1 while in Administrator window or select Start->Programs->ActiveTextBox->ActiveTextBox Help.

Q: How do I uninstall ActiveTextBox?

A: ActiveTextBox complies with Microsoft software un-installation specifications. You can remove it any moment by opening Control Panel and selecting 'Add remove programs'. Alternatively you can select Start->Programs->ActiveTextBox->Uninstall ActiveTextBox.

Q: What applications will work with ActiveTextBox items?

A: You can add ActiveTextBox items to each and every application including text fields in standard Windows dialog boxes (Explorer, Control Panel, etc.), Microsoft applications (Office, Visual Studio etc.) text fields and text fields in 3d parties programs.

Q: If I add\delete items\strings in Administrator window when these changes will have effect?

A: Immediately after you make any changes. You won't have to restart Windows or exit and re-launch ActiveTextBox.

Q: How do I add ActiveTextBox capabilities to a textbox?

A: Select New ActiveTextBox from Operations menu. In a window that will show up left-click the Finder Tool and point to the needed textbox while holding left mouse button down (in other words drag the Finder Tool over a textbox) If the window class of a textbox is registered with ActiveTextBox (see next question), the cursor changes it's shape and color. Release the left mouse button. Press OK in the New ActiveTextBox window. Enter the description of this textbox and press OK. Now you can add\remove\modify the text strings and chose sorting method for a list of text strings. For detailed information see Help.

Q: What is window class?

A: Each window in Microsoft Windows operating system has some properties or, in other words, belongs to some registered class. ActiveTextBox knows what textboxes to use basing on a textbox class. ActiveTextBox remembers most classes that textboxes have. When you create a new ActiveTextBox item the cursor changes its shape and color. But some applications might have textboxes with different class names. To add ActiveTextBox item to such a textbox you must add its class name to ActiveTextBox database. The class name of a window that is under mouse cursor is shown in New ActiveTextBox window. You can register new class by either pressing Register Class button or choosing Classes list in Edit menu.

Q: Why after I create a new ActiveTextBox item sometimes I see a correct description of a textbox and sometimes the incorrect one?

A: ActiveTextBox tries to find a description of a textbox in a window by itself. Current version does this 100% correctly only with those applications that were written using Microsoft Visual C++. We hope to solve this problem in the near future.

Q: Why do string lists get attached to the textboxes\windows I didn't attach them to?

A: ActiveTextBox remembers textboxes by their IDs. Some applications feature different textboxes with the same ID. For example, a textbox in standard Find dialog window and filename textbox in Open/Save File window share the same ID (1152) and are created from one module (comdlg32.dll). In such case, if you add a string list to the Find window the same string list will be attached to Open/Save File dialog.
